Stack-On TD-28-SB-C-S Total Defense 28 Gun Security Safe
Stack-on is not a company that you might normally equate with gun safes. As primarily a container company, they have been around since 1972 and are headquartered near Chicago. They make containers for everything from crafts to shop tools to security safes. There specialty is organization, but they are doing a pretty good job with security as well.
Look and Feel of safe:
The interior does leave a little bit to be desired. The design isn’t of the highest quality, but if you are trying to watch the budget, then you have to give a little. There are 6 adjustable shelves are included in the fully carpeted interior, but the quality is a little bit under that of some of the other safes. The bags and handgun holders on the door are really increase the space and utility this safe provides.
Lock Mechanism & Safety:
This lock has a 3 number combination lock. This safe has a 4-way locking system with 1.5-Inch live action locking bolts and 8 locking points. The live action locking bolts are extended and retracted by rotating the 3-spoke, all steel handle. This is very similar to the safety on the other safes I’ve reviewed.
Fireproofing:
Rated for 30 minutes @ 1400°F! They must have saved some extra weight here. It’s a little less than I typically like, but they have an added bonus. It’s waterproof in 2 feet of water for up to 72 hours!!!!! This is a particularly good point for those of you who keep everything in a basement where water issues can sometimes come into play. For the price, it can’t be beat.
Interior:
Again, this is where this safe does slip a little. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a fine interior. The interior materials are just a little cheaper than some of the other safes. It has some adjustability with the shelving that can allow you to modify for your specific needs.
OVERALL:
When it comes down to it, this is really good safe on the less expensive side of things. It’s a little bit lighter and easier to move if you don’t want to pay for a professional mover. It will protect your guns and has the added benefit of being waterproof! At $999.00 it’s a great deal! Stack-on has a great reputation, albeit from a wide variety of container products. The quality that they exhibit in their other products does translate into this product as well.
