The Mesa Safe Company has been around since 1981. Don’t let the young age fool you though, the make a great product. George L. Vicente is the founder of the company. He started as a locksmith at age 16 and never looked back. I love that he uses his experience of legally cracking safes to build solid safes that are safer. Look and Feel of safe:
Exterior measurements of 59”(H) x 32”(W) x 22”(D). Weighing in at 670lbs this thing is a beast! I highly recommend professional safe movers, especially if you need to go up or down stairs. Heavy, solid, steel construction makes this safe feel very heavy duty. Black with gold lettering and the brass spoke handle makes this look sharp in my opinion. I have a relative that doesn’t like the spoke handles because he has a smaller space for his safes and he thinks he would bump into it too much, but I also think he’s actually certifiably crazy so….take that for what it’s worth.
Lock Mechanism & Safety:
Battery operated locking mechanism that has a key back-up. This is the company’s MSL-50 Lock. You can have two different codes up to 8 digits long. If the code is entered incorrectly 3 times, it will shut down for 15 minutes. Also, there is a red light indicator that comes on when the Battery is low. It uses a 9V battery. There is a key backup that allows you access without the use of the keypad. Another nice feature is a drill resistant hardplate that adds extra protection. Four anchor holes to attach it to the ground (not that the 700lb beast needs it, but hey, the company slogan is better safe than sorry!) The locking bolts are 1 ½”
Fireproofing:
High rating of 1 hour @ 1750°F!!! This is fantastic as many safes are only fireproof up to 1200°F. There is a pre-drilled access hole for dehumidifiers. If you are going to use this, you will still need to drill through the firewall. Make sure to use fire resistant caulk to seal that back up and maintain the full fire protection.
Interior:
Measurements are: 55.5"(H)x 28.5"(W)x 15.75"(D)--14.4 cubic feet of fully upholstered interior. It’ll look good and be safe for your guns to rub up against. The upholstery on the inside is nicer than most.
OVERALL:
This safe is serious bang for your buck! Great workmanship and solid construction for a really great looking gun safe. It’s a pain to move and is heavy as hell, but it’s worth it. You can take off the door to move it yourself, but you’ll need at least 2 people for the door and it could cause damage, so I’d just hire a professional.
